TBS Group and supply chain strategy

Over 25 years of innovation and development has brought TBS Group, originally a small leather footwear workshop, to become one of the most respected multi-industry fashion production and financial investment companies in the region and in the world.

To date, TBS Group continues to grow steadily and leads in the fashion industry market. The leather footwear industry has grown by 21% compared to 2015, with a total production of 28 million pairs a year, while the bag industry is 26% with a total production of around 13 million bags a year. TBS Group is getting bigger and bigger orders with world famous brands such as Decathlon, Skechers, and Wolverine for the footwear division, and Coach, Decathlon, Vera Bradley, Tory Burch and more for the handbag division. In particular, TBS is one of Skechers largest partners in the fashion and footwear industry.

This is a testimony to the sustainable development and orientation of TBSs Board of Directors. In the context that Vietnamese fashion industry enterprises are vacating their product research and development, TBS Group is choosing the path of innovation, investment, and promotion of R & D centers and expansion of the supply chain. Accordingly, TBS Group is the only Vietnamese company in the industry that has a sample research and development center that participates in the first stage of the product development process of the supply chain, contributing to the successful conversion of value of technology, resources, people and more into added value to customers.

Specifically, TBS plans to expand and develop three R & D centers in Binh Duong with total investment of nearly US $5 million and more than 1,000 employees. TBS Group wishes to develop a strategic center model, research and development of products, human resources, and technologies, to meet the increasing needs of partners and global markets. The center is equipped with a system of next-generation technologies and machines in sample development and production.

Automating production stages are Mishubishi programmable sewing machines,  Barudan computer based embroidery machine, Comelt leather cutting machine, PU cutting machine, Zund pressing machine, Laser fabric cutting machine, and more. These reduce costs, increase labor productivity and reduce risks in some stages of production for workers.

In addition, TBS Group prioritizes the use of Vietnamese technical personnel in the research and development of product samples for customers. Mr Pham Minh Tung, Deputy Director of Sales – Product Development, TBS Group, shared, “At TBS, we believe every human being has the potential, like natural resources, to be studied and deployed appropriately”. With that guideline, all Vietnamese professionals who shall be subject to their years of practical experience and professional training at TBS have become key factors in the Group’s development orientation. With the requirement for development of samples according to customer’s ideas from hand drawings, technical drawings, or artifacts or images, R & D center’s technicians can be proactive in material development, source sample materials. They can be responsible from sample development to finished products and for final product quality.

In order to have such a professional team, TBS also focuses on training human resources. Currently, TBS Group is pursuing further direction in the training and recruitment of talents such as a scholarship for the Master’s Degree Program in Technical Studies for the University of Viet-Germany, sponsoring laboratory equipment for the International University, the Education Fund to encourage students to make scientific research, and, in combination with Sonadezi College of Technology and Management, to ensure technical human resources for the future and to provide employment support to technical workers after graduation.

The spirit of innovation, creativity, and commitment to maintaining supply chain integrity is an important element in the success of TBS. TBS Group takes advantage of the competitive advantages of knowledge, experience, financial resources, as well as the benefits of R & D centers to cut costs of products. Simultaneously TBS group is enhancing customer services, technology, human resources, and production capacity to attract orders from major partners and deepen participation in the global supply chain.

Today’s achievement is the result of a long journey with many challenges. However, in the context of global integration, the challenge will continue for the fashion industry in general and TBS Group in particular. It is a challenge for human resources and training, development, and the guarantee of raw materials. The company has to invest in new technology to manage these challenges and professionalize management procedures to meet international standards.
